In the Black Forest
“In the Black Forest” is based on my husband’s original piano composition “Quoth the Cuckoo” where he replicates the Cuckoo Bird sound on his keyboard. Up until now, the only Cuckoo I’ve ever heard came from Cuckoo clocks, not birds. I started digging into the history of the Cuckoo Bird and the Cuckoo Clock and found that the wood used to build these animated clocks are found in the Black Forest in Germany, where the Cuckoo bird is found. The background color of the painting simulates the trees found there.
