When I was growing up in Brooklyn, NY. there was an old fashioned (although not old fashioned when I was growing up) candy store. There was a beautiful display of candies and all sorts of sweets on a gradually elevated display rack. Not too far from this store was a very magical bake shop called Maxwell’s. That’s where I had a charlotte russe – my parents bought me one of these delicacies every time we visited my grandparents. This painting is a tribute to those delicious memories.
