I love seaports. I love fish. I love the smell of the docks. I love the clanging of the boat horns. In DC this is the closest I get to feeling the wet, breezy environment near water. I feel transported whenever I go here because it’s grimy, noisy, and it doesn’t feel like I’m in a city. Everyone talks to everyone here, from the people standing on the moving pier, to the fish mongers, to my heroes — the men who clean the fish for me. As of 2016 the Maine Street Fish Market in Washington D.C. still stands while everything around it is getting cleaned up and beautified with high end restaurants coming in. This painting tries to capture what I love about the place
