I Don’t Return White Blouses (Sandia Mountains, New Mexico)
Acrylic on canvas
30″x40″
Sandia means watermelon in Spanish, and allegedly is believed it refers to the reddish color of the mountains at sunset. (See the watermelon seeds in the painting?). When I was there it had a reddish coral color and it was beautiful. When we took the tram up the mountain (which was 2.7 miles, 4000 feet up) we left 60 degree weather and soon experienced 30 degree temperatures.
The white in the painting refers to the snow, not to white blouses. But as I was painting I received a delivery —- you guessed it a white blouse. Just so happens I never return white blouses — they always seem to fit.
